Following the UCI’s announcement earlier this year concerning the Elite (*) Age Group Qualification Criteria, there is now a defined National Ranking criteria which provides the number of Riders that the Nations may enter. The initial impact will be upon the 2013 UCI BMX World Championships being hosted in New Zealand, as a consequence each of the National Federations will be faced with the decision as to how to allocate their Rider entitlement.
There have been discussions concerning the introduction of a BMX Summer Series within New Zealand and this Series is also referred to in the BikeNZ BMX Selection Regulations. The Summer Series will be used to determine those NZL Elite Riders who will be eligible to enter the UCI 2013 BMX World Championships, of course this is subject to the New Zealand National entitlement.
The results of this BMX Summer Series will NOT necessarily be a qualification or acceptance into the BikeNZ BMX HP Programme as that remains the property of BikeNZ and lead under the guidance of Ryan Hollows, Mark Elliot (BikeNZ HP Director) and the BikeNZ BMX HP Selection Team.
The following are the Race Meetings that will make up the BMX Summer Series:
- Feb 9th /10th 2013 – Sunset Coast – Time Trial & Race, two separate days Time Trial & Race.
- February 11th 2013– Rotorua Twilight, Race only
- March 24th 2013 – Cambridge – Pre-Nationals, Race Only
- March 29th/31st – Cambridge - Nationals, Race only, Friday.Race Format will be provided, however where possible the UCI Standard Format will be used. The finer details are currently being concluded.
The Rider ranking will be established from the riders’ best 4 of 5 results, with attendance at the Sunset Coast rounds being mandatory, this will be raced as Time Trial and Race.
