2016 BMXNZ Nationals

Cruiser National Championships

Taupo had 6 riders in the Cruiser racing at Puni. Congratulations to Kylie Sargison who made podium in 40+ class, while the boys battled it out in their respective classes and rode wickedly. Well done to you all! Great racing!

35-39 Cruiser - Male - Matt COLLINS 8th
40+ Cruiser - Female - Kylie SARGISON 2nd
40-44 Cruiser - Male - Kevin TAMEPO 4th
40-44 Cruiser - Male - Craig MCINTOSH 6th

Ezra PHILLIPS and Matthew BURNS rode as well, however, unfortunately did not make it into the finals despite riding well.

12 & Under National Championships

Seven Taupo kids took to the 5m ramp in the 12 and unders on Saturday while Mark Harland-Croft played on the 8 meter ramp with the big boys of BMX in the Superclass rounds which were peppered throughout the 12 and under racing throughout the day.

Kahlia Evans was one of the first Taupo youngsters to have her motos. She couldn’t quite get the placings needed to take her through to the 7 Girls Final, but she still had a smile on her face!

Bennett Sargison was the star of the day for Taupo, with firsts for his qualifying motos and his semi final, he ended up getting pipped on the finish in the final moto and just missed out on a podium finish, settling for 4th. Club mate Xavier SMITH-MCINTOSH competed in the 8 year boys, like Kahlia earlier, Xavier tried his best, but couldn’t cut through the tight racing and settled for fifth in his qualifying motos which knocked him out of the competition.

Ezra Phillips raced hard in his class while Abby HIRST, Zara Ranford and Declan WEAL made it through to the semi finals.

Sunday 13 & over National Championships

With just nine riders for Sunday’s racing, the Taupo field rode well with 4 of our 9 making it through to finals.

In the 14 boys, Jono, Rhys, Karl and Blake were competing. Blake did not make the finals despite some great riding, and Karl had to unfortunately withdraw from racing after his first moto due to injury, so it was up to Rhys and Jono with Jono settling for NZ 4 and Rhys taking away NZ 7.

Matthew was looking good in his semi final for 15 boys, until a crash on the third straight in front of him meant that he was caught up in the melee and ending his hopes for a final.

The spotlight was on our two 16 boys riders, Logan Hirst and Mark Harland-Croft. Logan and Mark both crashed at finals time in the first corner at last years Nationals in Christchurch, so both were determined to stay upright this year. Mark’s at qualifying took away a 2nd, 1st and 1st while Logan was undefeated in his first three motos. In Semis the Mark took out a first and Logan second. Finals saw some awesome racing from all the field. Logan maintained third place throughout the moto, Mark was looking convincing for a first placing, however, Ryan Jordan from Hamilton just pipped him at the finish meaning Mark took 2nd and Logan 3rd. Great podium result for Logan and Mark.

14 Boys - Jono SARGISON 4th
14 Boys - Rhys HALLIGAN 7th
16 Boys - Mark HARLAND-CROFT 2nd
16 Boys - Logan HIRST 3rd

Michael, Blake, Karl, Matthew and Dean all rode but did not make the finals. They all have NZ rankings, but we do not have the official numbers as of now.
