November Newsletter

BMX is BACK!

Thank you all for your patience while the work has been carried out at the track.  The work is just about complete and we are please to announce that Club night will be happening on Wednesday night!  See you at the track from 5.30pm for some much needed racing!

Sprocket training will be on from 5.30pm this Monday at the track.

Lance’s training starts back this Tuesday at 5.30pm sharp!

2014 Taupo District Sports Awards

Taupo BMX Club along with a few of our members was nominated in the 2014 Taupo District Sports Awards.  We were awarded Club of the year for 2014.  Vice-President Steve Amrein accepted the trophy and award.

A huge thanks and also congratulations goes to all members of the Club, Committee Members and parents of members for your help and contributions that got us this award.

Logan Hirst was awarded the Felix Prescott Cup.  TheFelix Prescott Cup is an award for the top sportsman aged under 14.  Congratulations Logan, a well deserved award for you.

Steve, Mark and Kevin were also nominated for awards but unfortunately they missed out this year.

Berms

TR Construction sealed the final berm at the track on Friday and they will be back on Monday to finish and tidy up around the corners.  Toby and his team have done a fantastic job under trying conditions.  It’s not easy to haul a 100kg+ plate compactor to the top of the berm and catch it at the bottom, but they managed to do it.

Please take care around the berms while they settle in and the grass grows back. Also, please don’t let anyone pick at the edges of the asphalt.

The Lakesider

The Lakesider is happening again on the 29th November and we have been given the opportunity to help out again. This is a fantastic fundraiser for the Club, but can only happen with YOUR help.

We still need people to help with marshaling from 12pm till 3pm. Please let Anne-Marie know if you can help. (secretary@taupobmx.org.nz). You’ll get a free T-Shirt and a sun tan for your troubles! (Suntan not guaranteed).

Taupo Race Jerseys

We have got our race shirts sorted!  Keep an eye out this week for the order form for Taupo BMX Race jerseys in a separate email.  Orders will close for these on January 15th and delivery will be 4-6 weeks after close of order.  Sorry, we couldn’t guarantee that these would be here for Christmas because of the suppliers shut down period, so we have extended the order period.  If you miss this round of orders, you will have to wait till the club has at least five other shirts to get made.

Taupo Berm Buster Meet

6th December is the date for our NQM meet.  To help make this a successful meeting, we need help around the track.  If your child is not racing, we would love to have you help.  If you do have racing kids, then please consider helping for a round or two on the day.  Let us know where you can help out by replying to this email please.

Some of the areas we need help are: Points hut, shop, flags, call up, track maintenance, set up, marshaling, bbq, finish line – just to name a few!

Home baking for marshal food is appreciated.  We need to feed our volunteers over the day and a batch of muffins would help out a treat!  If you can donate some baking, please let us know.

We are still looking for sponsors for age groups and Super Cruiser.

Age group sponsors are just $50.00 per class and you get your logo in the program and mentions throughout the meet by the commentators.   You’ll also get your name on the trophies.

30+ Super Cruiser sponsor is $250.00.  This money goes back to the racers in the super cruiser class.  Again, you get mentions throughout the day, but get a full-page ad in the program and can put signage up at the track for the day.  If you want to sponsor any of the above, please email us now!

Fireworks

Thanks to all who helped by manning the caravan for the four days of fireworks sales.  Again, a successful fundraiser that has reaped much needed funds for the club.

Club BBQ – Mark Harland-Croft

All profit from the Club night BBQ’s will be doing to Mark Harland-Croft to help fund his Trans-Tasman trip in the new year as part of the Senior Test Team.  Grab a sausage or two to help support Mark.

Xmas Break Up

It’s that time of year again – Christmas.  Due to families being away, we break each year over the silly season.  This year, the last BMX night is Wednesday 17th December.  We will have racing as per normal with Santa arriving on his bike during the evening.   Because of budget cuts at the South Pole, you’ll need to bring a wrapped and named gift for your own child that Santa will hand out.  To be fair on other kids, the value of the gift is to be no more than $10.  BMX will resume on Wednesday 21st January 2015.
